Preserving Library History

In 2019, the library commissioned a Facility Conditions Assessment (FCA) of our historic building, thanks largely to a 2018 grant from Central Berkshire Fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. The FCA will provide a road-map for long-needed improvements to the library’s early 1900’s structure. The FCA report is currently under review.

In FY2020, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners awarded the library a Preservation Assessment grant, to provide expert guidance on the proper care and handling, display and storage of historic resources including documents, photographs, books and artifacts. The Preservation Assessment will provide a framework for a Local History Area, where these unique resources will be easier to view, access for research purposes, and enjoy.

Our 2020 Space Planning Project is under way, with generous support through a 2019 grant from Central Berkshire Fund. Improvements will include creation of a new computer room, preparations for a Local History Area, custom-built shelving for our Children’s Area, and the purchase and installation of a new incinerator toilet.
